« backThe Egg Recall

You may have heard about the recent egg recall. All of the potentially affected eggs, which make up less than 1% of all US eggs, have been removed from store shelves.

Some people have been asking if eggs are still safe to eat. Yes they are! Thoroughly cooked eggs are thoroughly safe, according to the Center for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration. Check out the video for two delicious egg recipes and techniques on how to properly cook eggs so that you can still enjoy the all of the high quality protein, 13 essential vitamins and minerals, antioxidants and GREAT taste eggs provide. Enjoy!

  1. I love that description – “paint” the eggs :)

Ok, so remember I mentioned Cambodian grilled eggs on an old post of yours? Well, I attempted them – ha! The results were tasty but a big mess. I’m wondering if you have any insight as to why they boiled over (my guess is that I steamed them too hot and overfilled them).

    Here’s the recipe:

And here’s my review of it (you’ll see in the video at the bottom what Ava, my daughter, thought of them :) ):

Well, have left Maine and living in New Jersey (home) now and want to know your thoughts on buying eggs from local farmers. In Maine I had several places to buy from local farmers eggs and they were fantastic. Am looking for a place in my new area, but am looking for some feedback as far as safety!!

Hello Mary, Thanks for your inquiry. Although this recall has been tragic the reality is that the vast majority of eggs are not infected and are safe. To be completely safe you can cook the eggs until firm or to a temperature of 160 degrees. I am still buying eggs from the grocery store as well as local farmers markets and have not had any problem. Enjoy and take care.
